Cretan script (disambiguation) : ウィキペディア英語版
Aegean script
The term Aegean script refers to a group of scripts that originate from the island of Crete but later spread on the mainland Greece, Aegean islands, Cyprus and (sporadically) Levant.
It encompassed the term Cretan script (currently outdated), which may refer to:
* Cretan hieroglyphs
* Linear A
* Linear B (Creto-Mycenaean script)
* Phaistos Disc
This family of scripts vanished soon after the Bronze age collapse and were not remembered until their rediscovery in late 1800s.
The Linear A (or probably Cretan hieroglyphs) was ancestral to the Cypro-Minoan script, which in turn evolved into the Cypriot script. The latter was gradually supplanted by the Greek script by the end of Antiquity.
